Overview
The Atlanta Black Tie Club is a member-sponsored social club with the mission to provide wonderful activities to “Outstanding, Accomplished, Professional Singles Over 45” to have fun and to meet new friends in a sophisticated and enjoyable ambiance. All guests should be single; meaning divorced, widowed or never been married – not separated.
Club History
The Atlanta Black Tie Club was established in February of 1984 with a group of 12 hand-picked charter members (6 men and 6 women). These twelve individuals established the club by inviting top quality middle-aged singles (evenly divided between men and women) to achieve a membership of 50 members. The original charter had monthly events many of which were formal for individuals over the age of 35. Later membership grew and was capped at approximately 200 members, 100 men and 100 women to maintain the male/female ratio. After 25 years in existence the club increased the age to over 45. The club adds to its membership through the sponsorship and recommendation of a member.
Activities
Our activities include Monthly Cocktail Parties and a major monthly party or special event. The Monthly Cocktail Parties are held at various restaurants featuring hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. The major monthly parties include the Spring and Fall formal balls at prestigious country clubs; many parties at private clubs; and assorted parties such as Valentine’s Party, St. Patrick’s Day Party, holiday parties, costume parties, Margaritaville Party, casual parties in member’s homes; and much more. The events feature incredible venues with dancing, fine dining and open bars.
Guests
All guests must be invited by a member who will be their sponsor should they wish to submit a Membership Application. We ask our guests to fill out a Guest Card the first time they attend a Club event. After that, they need only to sign the guest list. The Guest Card is used to put you on the guest list for future events. All notifications are by email. After attending a maximum of three events, including Monthly Cocktail Parties, guests must make a decision as to whether they would like to submit a Membership Application. This decision is important since most events are subsidized by the Club treasury and it is unfair to our members to have people attending events or parties who are not interested in joining. If you have not submitted a Membership Application after three visits you will be expected to refrain from attending any future events; even though you may be invited by your member sponsor who is not aware that your guest status has expired.
Application
If you are interested in membership, please contact our Membership Chairman. Membership Applications are distributed upon request only. Please complete the Application in its entirety. Send the Application, a current photo, and a check for $275.00 for the initiation fee ($100.00) and the annual membership dues ($175.00) to the address at the bottom of the Membership Application. Once an Application has been accepted the applicant is welcome to attend all events, unless specified “Members Only,” until the Board of Directors reviews and votes on his or her application. It is important that prospective members meet and get to know as many of the Board Members as possible since these are the people who will be reviewing their application. The Board will also request feedback from your sponsor.
Membership
New members are accepted on a semi-annual basis. Guests who have submitted a Membership Application will be invited to a Prospective Member Cocktail Party hosted by the Board of Directors. Following the party, the Board will meet to consider the applications and vote on new members. Many criteria are taken into consideration at this time, one being the fact that we strive to maintain an even distribution of membership between men and women. Applicants will be notified within one week following the cocktail party as to their status.
